HR Generalist – Cambridge & Saffron Walden

Salary:  £33,000 – £37,000p.a.

Hours of work: 9am – 5pm Monday – Friday, 52 weeks of the year.

Location: Cambridge & Saffron Walden.

The candidate can decide whether to work:-

3 days a week in Cambridge and 2 days a week in Saffron Walden OR

Be based in Saffron Walden with requirements to visit other Cambridge locations when required.

Kameo Recruitment has partnered with a well-established educational establishment based both in Cambridge and Saffron Walden. Our client is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic HR Generalist, to support the HR Office Manager in the day-to-day delivery of the HR life cycle across over 400 staff.

You will be involved in a variety of hands-on HR tasks, whilst supporting the management and senior leadership teams as well as leading & supporting employee relations casework, with priorities changing on a day-to-day basis, therefore the ability to prioritise and organise your workload is essential to the success of this role.

Main Responsibilities of the HR Generalist 

  • Ensure strict compliance in all employment related matters in line with policies and procedures, employment law and other relevant guidance.
  • Advise managers and colleagues on employee relation matters, providing best practice guidance and ensuring complete compliance with relevant policies.
  • Lead / support employee relations casework, including: disciplinaries, grievances, absence, redundancy, settlement agreements, flexible working requests and occupational health referrals.
  • Lead / support significant employee relations’ consultations, including TUPE processes, and those relating to substantive changes to terms and conditions, including salary, pension, and benefits.
  • Seek independent expert legal or employment advice, as and where appropriate.
  • Assist with HR related projects and support wellbeing initiatives.
  • Support the probationary and annual review process, capturing training needs and following up with line managers.
  • Contribute to the continuous review of HR procedures, suggesting improvements as and where necessary or beneficial.
  • Support the recruitment process when required and as needed by the Recruitment Coordinator
  • Ensure staff information is entered into HR Pro and iSAMS so the data is accurately and readily available prior to commencement of employment.
  • Produce contracts of employment and other contract documentation.
  • Liaise with the Payroll department on new starters/leavers and employee contract changes, checking calculations of pay and holiday entitlements. 

Requirements for the HR Generalist

  • Minimum Level 3 CIPD qualified, or relevant and extensive HR generalist experience essential.
  • Experience across all aspects of HR that includes a background in handling ER processes such as disciplinary, grievance, absence management, occupational health referrals, etc.
  • Previous background working within a school / educational setting would be ideal.
  • A true team player who is happy to muck in
  • Work effectively to deadlines and the ability to prioritise own workload.
  • Flexible approach to meet the changing needs of the school.
